Inspire

Located on the banks of a bend in the Wyong River, Kingfisher House comprises two elevated pavilions nestled quietly within the leafy surrounds of an open river-flat eucalypt forest + linked by a glazed, double height entry space.

The structure’s podium walls form the base to each of the pavilions + are constructed from off form concrete, housing the garaging + service areas. Above, the pavilions are framed structures - the living pavilion extends the use of concrete, but in a framed portal which is then infilled with ‘light’ through large glazed panels. A gently curved roof floats across the portals + brings a softness to the space. The living spaces below flow from one to the other, only separated by dividing joinery + the sense of hierarchy of the space achieved from the structure + furnishing.

Timber cladding to the sleeping pavilion provides a sense of enclosure + protection. Openings are located so as to control the view + light to each of the rooms. The pavilions are linked by a light filled void, assisting in the free flow of space from one area of the house to the next.
